It was a big day for Iraq, Iran and the U.S. because the U.S. and Iran are apparently going to have talks about Iraq in Baghdad. Although the talks will not deal with anything specifically related to U.S.-Iranian relations, it is still extremely important because these two countries have been foes since the Islamic Revolution in 1979. I feel this talk will be somewhat successful only if the Iraqi government is directly involved and has a majority of the say. I think that it is time for the U.S. to stop deciding what is in the best interest of other countries and let those governments and the people decide for themselves. However, the article says that the Iraqi government welcomes these talks because it currently has close ties with both. Also, Ali al-Dabbagh was saying that the U.S. giving into some of Iran's demands is important in order for the US pullout to be peaceful. I also think that the U.S. giving in is important because the United States considers itself to be a sovereign country and does not let any country or even the United Nations dictate what they should and should not do. Therefore, other countries such as Iran should have the right to the same type of sovereignty. People may argue that Iran wants to create nuclear weapons, however, I think in general Iran wants to have nuclear capability because this is unfortunately an era of might is right and all of that might seems to be concentrated in one region. Even if Iran created nuclear weapons I do not think the US has a say- after all, it has nuclear weapons and has dropped nuclear bombs.
